Works great manJul 12, 2010 This is a pretty nice drive, the case is still pretty sturdy despite some of the reviews on the net that say they cheapened it up. Speed is reasonable.
Not what they used to be.Jun 10, 2010 Pros: Metal shell has definite cool factor.
Cons: As slow as drives that are half the price.
When I received the unit, I tested it with the ATTO benchmark test to see if it was as fast as the 4GB Titanium I purchased a couple of years ago. It was not even close.
On small files (.5k) the original would write 450 kB/second, this one wrote at 47 kB/second. (1/10th the speed of the original)
On 4k files the original would write 3.385 MB/second, this one .262 MB/second. (1/13th the speed of the original)
It wasn't until I reached 128k files that the two leveled out at 10+ MB/second write speeds.
The small file write speeds were on par with the non-titanium 8GB cruzer I tested which is less than half the price. If you are using it to copy large photo and video files you will be reasonably happy with it. If you use to transfer a large number of small files like word and excel files, driver files, non-zipped program files, etc. you will find it apallingly slow. Considerably faster models can be had for about 60% of what this one cost. They just don't have the cool factor.
I purchased this unit from Blue Proton through Amazon. Why it performs at nearly the same level as the non-titanium version and no where near the level of the previous titanium model, I really can't say. (But I have my suspicions due to painting anomalies on the metal casing)
reads slower but writes faster than a regular CruzerJun 07, 2010 Compared to the standard Cruzer, reads are ~15% slower and writes are ~50% faster.
I'm happy with it.
It's a durable flash drive, but color isn't coolMay 06, 2010 I'm writing this review for my brother. I had to order this drive online because in stores I guess it's been discontinued with the liquid metal cruzer USB drives. I have a 2GB one and it has a nice gamer blue operation color to it. Well this 8GB one that I'm reviewing has a orange-amber color to it that pulses its intensity of color like it's breathing hehe. Well he doesn't like this color of the light, but it is still a hardened flash drive and still 8GB so it is fine to me. I'm glad mine is blue. Sandisk should've kept the operation lights blue, blue means cool.
It ain't daintyApr 23, 2010 This flash drive looks and feels more substantial than many of the cheapo novelty drives that sell for much less. The metal casing is sturdy and durable, which will hopefully prevent it from meeting the same fate as my last plastic drive (death by puppy teeth). The connector slides into the body of the drive when not in use, but the connector's opening remains uncovered when retracted. This means that a little rock or other debris could find its way into the opening and cause problems, something of which you should be aware if you intend to carry it around in your pocket (or your bag of dirt).
